Creek Bend Farm Wetland Wastewater Treatment System
Sandusky County Park District
Project involved the design of a new onsite wastewater treatment system to serve a new 7,200 SF nature center and an existing historic farm house. Site does not currently have sanitary and water service available from the Village. New system is a subsurface flow constructed wetland and soil dispersal system which is a low maintenance and visually pleasing alternative to traditional rural septic leach systems. The new system meets the Parks criteria of a green initiative, environmentally friendly system. Primary waste water treatment is provided by a conventional 3,500 gallon settling tank. After settlement, effluent flows to a pump station which supplies the wetland cells. Secondary effluent treatment is accomplished in two wetland cells utilizing wetland plants to facilitate a combination of volatilization, aerobic, and an aerobic processes. Because of the relatively new nature of this design concept and methodology, coordination with Ohio EPA was crucial for project development and approval.
